The Importance of Roof Specialists

The construction industry employs an extensive set of labor force with diverse range of expertise. There are architects who take care of designs on the one hand and there are carpenters and masons who take care of the construction parts. Electrical engineers take care of electrical computations and blue print layout and there are electricians who do the actual installations and safety work.

And then there are roof contractors, arguably the most underappreciated group in any construction undertaking. These roof specialists are critical manpower in any construction work since they determine the strength of material, choose appropriate designs and provisions, and provide technical maintenance and repair of a very important part of the house. In many cases, the tasks of these roof specialists are delegated to the regular construction labor personnel in order to cut on costs. But in Singapore, roof specialists are separately hired to specifically perform the simplest to the most complex tasks in roof jobs.

Roof Design Tasks

First, roof contractors design an appropriate roof for a house. The can choose from a variety of designs including classic design where roof materials are arranged in two oppositely slanted formations. A classic design is recommended against in areas where there are regular heavy rains since this design protects roof from direct impact of rain.

And then there are shed and saltbox designs which is advisable for smaller houses since the hexagonal shape of these designs are good for materials and fixtures that are easily detachable. Flat roof designs on the other hand are more permanent designs, usually constructed with concrete, and are best for families with plans to expand the house with additional storey or a roof top.

Choosing the Best Roof Material

There is no such thing as the best roof material and a the choice of appropriate material depends on budget, annual weather conditions, other hazards that are likely to affect the quality of the roof and over-all safety of occupants and the actual design. For instance, as mentioned earlier, concrete is best for flat designs since the design it made for possible eventual expansion and are therefore need stronger surface.

For families of companies working on tighter budgets, asphalt shingles are best due to their substantially low price. They are also easy to install and can therefore reduce labor cost. The downside is that they fade easily, have short durability, and usually require additional reinforcement like fiberglass or organic materials such as cellulose for increased durability. Asphalt shingles are also poor insulating device. Another cheap alternative is wood shingles but the disadvantage is that they are fire-hazard materials. Concrete tiles can solve problems of durability and are likewise cheap but they are difficult to install. Synthetic roofing products from rubber, plastic and polymer roofing which can easily be designed to fit color or theme of the main house are newer alternatives to any house. They can be brittle or fragile and therefore less durable but they this can be addressed through additional roof awning work to make attachments and supporting structures more rigid and sturdy.  This however will entail additional labor costs.

In the end, the safest choice remains to be the classic metal roofs which are best due to their weather-resistant properties. Although they are slightly more expensive than other types of material, they are lightweight, recyclable, generally last longer. They are also easy to install and maintain which significantly cuts down the cost of labor and this is already a significant amount of savings since Singapore roof repair can also be very expensive.
